Using the System

While exact procedures will vary according to customer and application practice, most jobs involve two distinct steps: work setup and supercomputer (SC) execution. Work setup is not considered chargeable SC time for billing purposes. Instead, your account includes free single-processor non-SC CPU access at root administrator privilege for this use. The amount of time you need to spend on setup may be reduced if you start with one of our pre-defined frameworks — or you can create your own.

All operating system versions are supported provided that they work with the CPU hardware virtualization technology (Xen/KVM) we utilize. We have pre-defined setups for several popular open-source OS versions currently in use. You have full root administrator privileges over all virtual CPU's - including your work setup node. Control your CPU's using a command-line login via secure shell (SSH). Or, use a fully graphical interface that gives you complete remote control from your desktop. You can also interconnect your CPU's in a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
